This prominent and historic structure located at the heart of Carisbrooke was subjected to sympathetic renovation and adaptation work to reinstate parts of the former working mill. The project required a mix of intricate structural design including attention to detail where modern materials were integrated with reclaimed working features of the historic mill. The project demanded the design of an oak frame and internal supporting structure to create a working classic car storage area incorporating the installation of an MOT lift to deliver classic cars onto the first floor of the old barn. The main dwelling of the mill required a vaulted oak truss roof over the landing along with cantilevered structural oak stairs. One key structural feature was the creation of a riveted structural steelwork beam and column system supporting a corner section the first floor of the mill over ground floor glazing, served by a walkway bridge along side the water wheel.
